Chester Matters: Ruth Bennett Community Farm to Distribute Boxes of Food and Fresh Produce

The Chester Housing Authority’s (CHA) Ruth Bennett Community Farm will kick off its spring/summer season and distribute more than 100 free boxes of food and fresh produce to residents on April 8 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM. The boxes will include a variety of items, including salad greens and spinach, carrots, onions, potatoes, apples, strawberries, eggs and milk.

Farm manager Natania Schaumburg and her cohort of youth workers are reinstating the biweekly free food distribution efforts they established in April 2020 as part of CHA’s response to the Covid-19 crisis.

Their efforts are meant to help ease some financial burden for residents and make sure they continue to have access to balanced meals to help safeguard their health.  They are utilizing funds from The Foundation for Delaware County, The Leo & Peggy Pierce Foundation and the CARES Act.

Residents from the Bennett Homes and senior citizens will be prioritized, with families invited to take one box per household. Pick-up procedures will follow strict social distancing rules, with workers wearing facemasks and attendees wearing facemasks.
